Sounds cool - wish you had video of it. I have never had leftover POR15 because I am surrounded by rusting trucks. I'm guessing it's reacting with moisture in the air when you break the skin ... Maybe (?). That's based on something I read years ago about the stuff needing some humidity to cure fully.
Someone on the old tractor forum described the same thing with old POR15 - (quote):
...One trick I've found is to store the unused portion in a clean oil bottle... squeeze all air out and put on the cap. Also if this stuff dries and forms a skin in the can, DO NOT try to puncture the skin. Some how it builds up pressure underneath and when you break through it will geyser up... and more than likely you'll be leaning over the can when it happens. I learned that the hard way.
