This motor has two stator coils to set up magnetic fields. They will conduct current all the time that power is applied. The rotor has coils that cause fields opposite those of the stators'. They get power via brushes and, except for ground at one end - in some designs, must be isolated from each other and not grounded in the middle of a winding.
