transfer case question

I'm replacing the seals in my 1941 military half-ton transfer case. I had to remove the bearing retainers in order to drive the old seals out.

I need a little advice. When I put the retainers back on with new gaskets, should I use gasket sealer, too? I'm worried it may throw off the bearing adjustment.
