There are 30-40 internal wiring versions of them, and on the outside, they all look alike. Don't give up on the one you have.

If you have two big studs and one small one, figure the coil that makes it click is connected to the small stud on one end and you need to find the other end. You have already proven it isn't connected to frame ground. It is possible that one end of the coil is connected to one of the big studs, and the other end is connected to the small stud. They make them like that so the coil is energized by grounding the small stud. You may have four studs, two big ones, two small ones.

If you have a VOM meter, set it to check continuity, I like the beep option for doing this kind of test. With nothing hooked up to the solenoid, put one probe on one stud, then touch the other probe to all the rest. Do this test to all of the studs until you find "the pair" that represent bothe ends of the coil. Then you can hook it up and use it.
In example, look at these on the Cole Hersee website, four pages worth of identical looking solenoids. It is confusing.
