Most I have seen are pillar mount. Maybe trends were specific to different parts of the country?
Pictured is my WDX with the pillar mount Unity spot light. There is quite a bit of space between the handle and the steering wheel. I can not remember a time when I accidentally bumped the handle, and I have done a lot of off road driving. Though I have bumped the turn signal switch on occasion.
There are two mounts on my spotlight. The outside on that fits the curvature of the pillar, and an inside on that angles over and attaches to the dash.
