After having a few pieces grab and do the wirlly gig thing I made two changes. Any time I can I back up the steel and drill into wood. This saves buts and stops some grabbing.
Small pieces I use vise grips to hold the piece that is being drilled.
You think that is smart? Then why did I grab the piece of steel that was stuck to the bit in the hand drill .....and then turn the drill on ? Whippet snip I gots a 2 inch cut. DUH!

I can see your poor wife.. " Come on Willy I will drive you to emergency....again" All the while shaking her head, tossing a book and food in her purse and a slight smile on her face.
