a well made bias ply is a very strong thing. in bias tires all the strength is in the super thick sidewalls. In radial tires the strength is all in the tread area. radials bulge way more than bias. That is why it took decades for big trucks to switch to radials and some trucks/trailers still run bias. they have some advantages in durability and cost of produtcion
