I had been looking around for a long time for a big diesel four door truck. Went 3 states away to look at a couple of cummins trucks. I just could not bring myself to pay $35k for a new truck. I mean you could have 4 different types of nice old PW's for that money. Then one day I found "Crummie", a Ex-Canadian Forest Service '87 GMC Crewcab 4x4. Not a "pretty" vehicle by todays standards, But a very functional truck. 1 ton drivetrain (full floater rear end), 4.10 gears(for towing), single rear wheels (better in the snow), and a EFI 350 c.i. motor (much better MPG than the 454). Hauls a 12000 lb trailer loaded to the gunnels with Power Wagon stuff and dont complain for an instant. Sure, to turn on the AC, you have to roll down the windows (manually!) Max AC means you have to open up the vent windows and pull open the floor vents. If the motor ever craps out, a new one is available from NAPA for $1200 (try and rebuild a 230 for that mutch money) and Turbo 400 trannies are everywhere. Total cost of the truck is just over what tax would have cost me on a new Cummins rig.
