I have an interesting old TM called "Operation and Maintenance of Ordnance Materiel in Extreme Cold (0 to -65 F)" that shows an electric windshield defroster installed on a "2-1/2 ton 6X6 truck, GMC". It's a resistance wire grid type arrangement mounted on a frame that clamps against the windshield. If any are still around, I would think it would fit and be authentic on an M37 as well, though it might be overkill in NC.
