Old oil oxidizes into acids. In fact , the best way to check to see if it's time to change oil is to taste it, fresh oil is like crisco (no taste, just oily on tongue), old oil is like brake fluid. The particulates can be filtered out but the acids dissolve your parts. So I change my oil every 27,000
miles , whether I need to or not!
