Yea, I agree with a lot that has been said. New trucks are way over priced because they know that they can get away with it. The 4X4 sticker on the side is worth 5,000 plus. Most people have a SUV because it is the fad and the dealers are pushing them because of the high markups. Same with "Trucks" Try this, go ask for a truck that you can use for work, they will take you to the back of the lot or special order it and that is after you have spent an hour explaining to them that you do not need leather and the surround sound enertainment system (with DVD).
I love my PW and Carryall due to their symplicity. Although I did add a good sound system to my Carryall now that it runs a little quiter. They are a throw back (can not believe I said that) to a much simpler and less hurried life. They have a significant part in my life. I enjoy working on them. Fixing or improving things. I love driving them. I can drive my PW up a hill at 20MPH in a 45MPH zone and not get honked at, yelled at, or passed on the right side. Go 40 in my Suburban up the same hill and they would be all over me. The PW seems to just calm people down and accept the fact that I am doing the best I can. Driving the Carryall is totally different. Yes I get the same treatment as the PW, nobody gives me a bad time but I usually leave people well behind when climbing hills (the V8 helps). I get all sorts of comments, questions, thumbs up and smiles when driving either. The PW seems to get the guys attention the Carryall get everyones attention even the old ladies. It's fun to drive them. I have never gotten the finger or etc unlike when I drive the other cars.
I enjoy the situations that they creat, for example, I was coming out of a fabric store the other day (buying headliner fabric) and this woman comes out with her 4 kids. The oldest boy (about 12) as "Mom what kind of truck is that green one?" Dead silence from Mom. He asked 2 more times with the same dead silaence from mom. She just did not know what to say even though she was looking at it. Its fun.
The truck have limits, I would not drive them to California on one of my annual treks. I might be tempted with the Carryall when I find the drive train noise and get it fixed (a bad bearing someplace wich is odd since they are all new). I use the Suburban to do that. I have gotten several offers for my 1990 Suburban lately. It is in very good shape and people know that for the price compared to a new one they will getting a good deal and they can not afford a similar new vehicle.
Enough rambling. PWs are just plain fun and I will keep them going.
