Kinda makes you appreciate the building of the pyramids a little more. Their stones were square and they didn't have any W-500's back then. I don't know if snatch blocks were that popular either. :-)
One other thought. Have you considered digging the leading edge of the hole away so that the rock is presented with a gradual incline instead of a 18 inch lip to overcome?
I think that if you try to snatch-block it up over this ridge, it could present a significant risk when the boulder finally clears the lip. See any roadrunner cartoon for details.
