4.89 and 5.83 are the rear end or pumpkin gearing.(5.83:1 gearing being the lower gearing) The axles for both are the same.Belive the axle design was Dodge but the manufacturer was Foote(a name you garden tractor guys might know,they made transaxles it was a different division of Foote I belive) 16 spline.
PS: By the way does anyone have M13's the need to sell(16 spline jogged my mind) See the above referenced manual it tells all.
