SAR Needs Supplies
One of the stations covering the disasters reported that the dogs currently on scene were going through booties at an amazing rate. They were wrapping burlap around the dogs feet/legs which was slowing things down considerably.
Requests are being made for booties. They stated to "clearly" identify the packages as Rescue Dog Supplies. Booties and other supplies (I'm sure vet wrap, K9 eye/ear wash, K9 first aid supplies, etc. would be appreciated) need to be clearly identified as "Rescue Dog Supplies" and sent to:

Assuming bootie sizes needed would range from medium (BC/Aussie sized) to larger (Lab/Rottie/GSD). Re sizes: Most of these dogs are Malinois or GSD size but there is one Rottie and probably some smaller ones as well.

This concerns the search dogs/handler teams that are working the WTC and Washington bombing sites now. The dogs require footgear to properly do their job w/o injuring their pads. If the paws are injured they will be pulled from duty for rehab or possibly not be worked at all. One less dog/handler team working is one less life to be found in a timely fashion.
As most of you already know, I work a search dog. Please read below. This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart as I work a cadaver dog locally here in Texas. If you can donate in any way, I will personally make sure that this footgear goes to the dogs in NY and Washington. Each set of booties for these dogs runs anywhere from $20 to $50 a set.

As mail to NY/Washington DC/Pennsylvania from the west coast will be slow, this individual has personally volunteered to get all booties/donations that she receives to the dogs at the individual disasters. All ready Compaq Computer Corporation and the PetSmart/Petco's in her part of Texas have been asked to rally for the $$ needed to get gear needed by the dogs to the individual disasters. Thanks to SAR dog folk in parts of Oregon, schools and vet offices are being asked to donate what they can for the cause.
Booties should be between medium (Border Collie/Aussie) sized to larger (GSD/Rottie/Lab) sized. Any other first aid gear (vet wrap, eye/ear flush, etc.) would also probably be very appreciated. Please make sure all stuffs sent are non-perishable and CLEARLY marked "Rescue Dog Supplies" with a list of contents for ease of categorizing and distributing.
