Engines do not bolt to transmissions unless it is a auto tranny with bellhousing cast as part of the entire tranny case.
The NP420 tranny will bolt to a older V-8 universal type chrysler bellhousing but, must have the longer pilot shaft as this bellhousing is 1" longer than the orig. flathead-6 bellhousing.
A notch would have to be cut into the front cross member of the frame to allow for the slt-6's timingchain cover.
I imagine an adapter plate could be made to adapt the slt-6 to the L-head bellhousing since the starter area would be wide open on the same side of both engines.
If I were going to that much trouble to adapt a (non direct boltup) engine into a PW
but wanted to use a chrysler product. I'd look into the 258 in-line 6. I've heard and read that the aftermarket fuel injection boost them to around 190hp. I even found a mini blower for one on the used parts shelf at a local jeep salvage yard.
You could get exotic and get one of the
in-line hemi 6cyl engines made in the 70s and used in the chrysler cars made in austrailia with 300hp using 3-webber carbs.
