Don't the rod caps make full surface to surface contact with the rods once bolted in place? Shouldn't the rods and caps been in full contact when machined? If so, I don't understand how one correct rod bolt replaced with another correct rod bolt after the machining process is going to make any kind of difference. I realize the rods and caps are not doweled to one another, and the bolts do the locating so the bores are common, but is there not a few tenths of clearance between the shank of the bolt and the corresponding hole through the cap?

("Tenths". That is accepted machinist talk for .0000, four decimal places, or ten thousands of an inch.)
