exterior door handles and window cranks

hey folks,
1949 ffpw
what is the trick to dissembling the exterior door handles as there seems to be a spring holding on the metal part that sits on the door
also
what is the trick to taking apart the window crank, more specifically taking the black round part way from the chrome crank? it seems that there is a nail or peen over pin that i need to get out some how

I'm trying to separate these pieces so i can rechrome them.
might anyone have a pic they could post?
i don't want to tear into these delicate items before i get some expert advice from you folks
