Holding these Hood Up!

I may have the rods in wrong since they don't hook onto the brackets on the fire wall. I have to put a small flat piece of wood on top of the bracket so it hangs up to hold it up. Are they supposed to snap over when you lift the hood up? If so I need to bend them or switch them around? Anyone have a close up picture of theirs on the hood or in place holding the hood up? Thanks I need to solve it and just don't want to bend them over might mess them up!
