Fundamentals of fluid mechanics: surface area of the piston (square inch) x pressure on the pump (psi) = force in kips. Then divide it by 2000 (2000 force-pounds in each kip) will yield force in tons.
GPM determines the speed of each cycle. You can have high GPM with lower pressure, and vice versa, lower GPM with the higher output pressure; depends on the pump itself.
