Road Test and OH, NO!

After years of working on my '51 FFPW I finally got plates and registration and took it on a road test. WaHoo!
But a mile into the road test WOAH all of a sudden this horrible noise - sounded like a blender with a ball bearing in it. If I slow down it stops. Gotta do more investigation but I think there might be a piece in the front axle differential that gets churned up at speed, then hits the moving gears.
Any thoughts or advice?
