Greg,

at idle there should NOT be any gas dripping from the inside of the carb above the throttle plates.

All fuel should be coming from below the throttle plates thru the idle circuit ( the mixture screw circuit).

A float set to high, leaking needle & seat, throttle plates too far open, or sometimes a clogged idle circuit could be the cause.
