Horn button removal?

Any ideas? Still working on the '62 D300. Looks like a bayonet type "press and turn" sort of deal like on my '67 Chevy, but although I can twist the button about an inch back and forth, it will not come out. I've tried pushing harder, lighter, prying, twisting, etc, and no luck. There's some gunk down in the steering column making noise, and I'd like to get it out.
