There are also very nice thread inserts made for plywood that have a large weldable flange. In my experience they tend to stay in place better than the pop rivet style.
If you insist on the pop rivet style they can be pulled in easily with a screw and a thrust bearing. A piece of sheet Teflon & 2 washers makes a good bearing if you don't have a proper ball bearing.
