That would work fine, but I don't think I need it in this case. Welding up the hole isn't really an option on cast, but on other things I've brazed it up and then drilled and tapped it. It sounds like a through-bolt will do the job. If somebody else wants to do a more correct repair someday, good for them, but I need to get the truck on the road soon.

As for the heat riser, I definitely need it. It was put together wrong (spring on backward, and weight in the wrong place) and tied up with wire. Perhaps we have more extreme weather here in North Idaho, but it definitely needs the heat riser in cold weather, and it needs to cut out once it's warmed up. Even in merely coolish weather it took too long on choke before I fixed it.
