You are right on, for short time use the smaller sheaved snatch blocks are fine. If you buy good american made blocks like DRH Johnson, Holmes, and McKissick and others, you will find they have a grease fitting for the bushing on the sheave. The sheave pin and bushing are generally 1 inch diameter or more, thus providing a heavy duty pivot surface and low speed of turn. Also, they are slightly lighter and easier to handle, plus less chance of cable fouling on sheave from side stress as the larger diameter sheaves generally are narrower and use the same size or smaller pin and bushing ! Grade 80 chain and hardware is quite sufficient. I stay with grade 90 since i'm used to have been paying insurance on my wreckers, thus adding a little margin of safety and brownie points with my insurer should I get into trouble.
