Isn't that how they do it on airplanes -- just a manual "carb heat" control? On this truck, I'll either get it working or leave it in the "no heat" position, but I've often thought of doing as you suggest on the sno-cats since they run in near-icing conditions most of the time and the engines have manually-set heat risers that tend to freeze up in whatever position they're set to. Also, they're kind of built like an airplane anyway, with an aluminum skin over a thinwall square tubing frame.
