I'm always confused by the terminology. Is it "open" straight from the manifold to the exhaust pipe or is it "open" into the heating passage? My spring is tight (pushing the shaft CCW) when it's hot. I think something's wrong and that's why the previous owner tied it up with a wire. I just don't know if he tied it into the "heat" or "no heat" position.
