Google the national average. Last I checked, it was $2.16 a mile, but fuel was higher then.

Find someone in your area that needs something brought back from Washington to share the cost; return loads really sweeten deals for shippers.

Don't know much about Jim, as he's never moved anything for me. But he was completely honest with me when I talked to him about the cost of shipping..
