Started monkeying with the D300 again today, getting it ready for a long trip, and noticed it's idling pretty rough (used to be better). Sprayed propane around all the places where there could be vacuum leaks and saw no effect, but noticed if I sprayed propane right into the carb, it would sputter and die. Thought maybe the idle mixture was too rich, but when I went to adjust it, even if I leaned it out to where it was barely running, spraying propane into the carb would still make it die. This is a very simple 1-barrel carb. Couldn't make out what kind it was as the nomenclature in the casting was very rough. I think it says "DIV ACE INDUSTRIES" The only vacuum-powered thing on the truck is the spark advance. Disconnecting it from the carb had no effect, spraying propane into the carb port had no effect, and I couldn't feel much vacuum with my finger on the port (there was a little bit, though). Given all this, I couldn't see the point of putting a vacuum gauge on it. It might well run fine at highway speed, but I'd like to figure out what's going on, or if necessary order a Weber conversion kit. Or maybe it's not the carb at all... Any ideas?
