Well.. I can't give you any first hand experience about building a PW, but I can give you first hand experience in looking to purchase one..

1. Take your time and learn as much as you can from the hardworking, true experts you will find on here, other online forums and magazines. Once you understand that learning about these vehicles, what it takes to maintain them and their idiosyncracies is almost a never ending process only then should you have the confidence to 'jump in.'

2. I was thinking about restoring as well. Reality set in pretty quickly when I found I needed a large bay or garage to work in, lots of tools and machinery that either I dont have or do not have easy access to. And then at least the space for 1 parts truck if not 2. Then, btw, make sure your local laws will not prohibit you from having vehicles not properly licensed, tagged and inspected!

3. Is this going to be like a "focussed, obsessive" hobby, a major pastime for you? It is? GREAT!!.. Oh, you want a life?! then forget it!! lol.. Hmmmm, now how did I forget that I didn't particularly do well in "Shop Class"!

4. Oh, you want to drive your vehicle in the same decade you began restoration? So sorry!

In any event, those are the basic issues I have dealt with while "lurking and learning"; decided I want "immediate gratification" and pay the piper! As such I have tucked away a small war-chest to find a suitable '58-'68 WM300 "driver".

IMHO ofcourse...
