Drove by in his new 1951 4x2 Dodge 2-ton dump truck, enroute from Spokane to California with stops at my house east of Portland and Ray Suiter's out of Medford.
What a cool ride. What's amazing is that the green and black paint is original. Not perfect, but amazing for a 50 year old dump truck. The bed has diagonal white stripes painted on it for safety.
Dave's truck was lacking for power on grades. Acting like lack of fuel or lack of spark. He had put in an electric pump the day before, but the fuel was still routed through the mechanical pump. We bypassed that, and then swapped in a coil I donated. Hopefully that will clear things up, because he has some serious grades ahead to get to Ray's and beyond in northern California. Nothing too complicated, was barely a six pack job.
We measured the head, and it's 25", so it's probably a 251. The hoist is a single unit ram and pump, run from a PTO on the passenger's side. The engine compartment is amazingly clean.
