Unthread the drain plug carefully and let a little bit of fluid out to check for water or oil. If your truck has not been run recently, you may have water at the bottom, raising the level of the clean oil floating on top. I've seen this in several gearboxes. If it has been run, the water would make "milkshake" with the oil. Good Luck!
