The half-ton hubs are designed with the brake drum being INBOARD of the hub. Thus you have to remove the hub and disturb the bearings to clean mud or sand out of the drum, and risk getting crap into the bearings and tearing of the seals.
The 1942 3/4 tonner improved the situation with drums outboard of the hubs. The drum could be removed without disturbing the hub, bearings or seals.
Thus Ray's kit, aside from improving the braking system, eliminate the inboard drum problem for those off-roading their 1/2 ton WC.
