One way of checking the master cylinder is to pump the brakes up and hold steady pressure on the pedal. If the pedal goes down SLOWELY, then you either have a fluid leak somewhere in the system or the master cylinder is by-passing. In most cases, if air is in the system, the pedal wont go down slowely.--- Giles
