When using polyester filler I usually use the stuff that has no talc in it. That stuff is great, has little shrinkage and sure is not for production jobs. It is not sand paper friendly.
I would love a lead substitute. For some small jobs I have used the plumbing lead free solder. Works quite well for filling screw holes.
