I think I'd have gouged that bird crap weld off the pin mount right above your hitch & fabricated a nice receiver hitch through your crossmember where the pointless supposed to be....then just gone with a bigger drop hitch.
Not a fan of receiver hitches on vintage vehicles... It just doesn't suit them.
