Three years ago when I refurbished my 16' flat bed trailer, to secure the new planks I used the self tapping 1/4 20 bolts. I bought 100 bolts and three $7 a piece 7/32" drill bits from Brafasco. The ID on the bits is 7/32 CO USA. I drilled 90 holes through 1/4" angle iron with one bit, and it was still almost as good as when I started.
Thirty years ago when I worked for Ontario Hydro building the big nuclear plant at Darlington, they used nothing but superior products. For drilling metal they used a thin fluid called "Rapid Tap" and a green coloured paste from Anchorlube.
