I agree with you on the electric. They have their place....on trucks that don't need a serious winch.
In 1968 I bought a new Ford 4x4 PU. I bought a Warn winch/bumper for it and took it out and got it stuck to see how it worked. Well, the motor was straining so hard it blew the caps out of the battery. After a neighbor pulled me out, I ordered a new Ramsey pto winch/bumper. I've owned many trucks with pto winches since, and still have 3 with pto and 1 with hydraulic. My little crane on the back of the WDX has an electric winch. :)
