All the black on my truck is Acrylic Urethane with NO clear coat. The axles, springs and such were hit with 80 grit, then 150 grit with a soft backer. Then lightly sandblasted and then sprayed with epoxy primer. Let it set a day and no sanding was done. What I got was a glass smooth surface that some on here have seen in person.
Paint suppliers will tell you the less layers the better and I was very surprised how it turned out. I first did it on the springs and once I saw that I started doing more the same. there is no filler or sandable primer on the suspension parts at all.
