Heater rheostat

My M37 has an inside, under the glovebox, 24v, hot water heater. There is just one speed for the heater fan--wide open!
I would like to put a switch with two or three detents (low, medium, high) so I could slow it down when comfortable.
Question: Will a simple cheap rotating switch like eBays sells from China do the trick --or is this high tech guru complicated electronic wizard stuff?
