WIX 51100 Oil Filter won't fit?? Help

The WIX 51100 filter is to big and tall for my can plus the seal that comes with it is larger in diameter and won't fit.? It goes down inside and fits the tube just to tall by 3/4" or so. Going to town in the morning and the archives are all over the place with numbers. 1948 Filter housing with nut on top.
