Our old iron had zero degrees so they could be maneuvered at low speed with such a primitive box. They were neither recirculating ball, nor roller worm- straight worm and sector. Both of the other designs designs go back into the 20s. Dodge Bros were leaders in automotive engineering, I don't know why the troglodyte box.
Caster really made it more relaxing to drive. Not that it had a shimmy or much wander, but you couldn't just hold the wheel in one place and glide down the road either. Had to keep sawwing it back and forth.
