I have 2 Sunbeam Tigers a 1966 Mark 1A (vintage race car) and a 1967 Mark 1A street car. All of the Mark 1s and Mark 1As had Ford 260 V8s and Falcon toploader 4 speeds in them. The Mark 2 came out in late 1967 and only around 500 were built (bringing huge money at auction recently (over $100K). They had Ford 289 V8s in them. Chrysler bought controlling interest in the Rootes group in 1965. Rootes came out with the Tiger in 1964 and bought all of the Ford V8s in 1964. Chrysler looked at putting the 273 in the car but it wouldn't fit without major work to the body, which Chrysler didn't want to invest in, so they made them until they used up all of the engines. The early ones had Ford V8 emblems on the fenders, when Chrysler took over they changed the emblems to read Sunbeam V8 and added a Chrysler penta-star on the passenger side lower front fender behind the front wheel. There are great books on this car. I've had my 1967 since the mid 80's. It is the most fun car I've owned and I've owned quite a few. Not to say that I don't enjoy my Power Wagon!
