you could bend up some coat hangers into a 20 by 7 shape. here is the drawing. It may fit in battery area but might be a little annoying when trying to tune it up. at least with the battery you can remove it for points installation and timing etc. being down on the frame wont hurt it. you could put a piece of sheet metal under it to deflect mud if you are concerned but they are not a fragile thing
