I have paint remover that will make that go away easy with a rag and yes it is on the outside of race but was installed when bare. I could have taped it but paint remover will make it go away where it need to be shinny. Sometimes a picture is of a part that is not all the way finished. That may throw you off thinking this is not right but glad your watching out for me. After I put all the parts back on the axle I will paint it again. So I am not worried if I need to clean off a mating surface on assembly. When ever you sand blast wet or dry it will get in the parts. So you need to clean them again when done. You need to take them back apart and get it out or it will damage bearing/races gears etc. That is why I Did Not sand blast the transmission or transfer case. I did those by hand including the Steering Box and guts. I did the drive shafts but you will notice I did not paint the spline. Any paint I got on the U-Joint Ends sockets will be cleaned off before installing all new U-Joints. Little things like that can get missed.
