Temp Gauge?

Has anybody plumbed a coolant temp gauge on the engine or in the engine bay? I would like to do so and am looking for ideas on where to put it?

The gauge I have won't thread into the temp sender port on the rear of the head. (too big). It also has different threads than the heater control valve port? It has a built-in sender that sticks out about an inch.
