Dad's homebuilt hay loader drives a winch off of the front of the crankshaft. Behind that big spoked cog in the photo sits the center section of a Mode T rear axle. The cranks shaft is connected to the Mode T pinion. The Mode T differential provides gear reduction, which is reduced further by lateral shafts running the winch. From there, a cable went up to the derrick which lifted the hay.
