This is exactly the reason for the open cabs. It was thought you could set up your rig at a fire much better. However, during the riots in the 60's the FD where I spent my career(Portland, OR)put fiberglass cabs on the ones that were still open. I have not seen a new open cab model fire truck for a lot of years.
