I have a 96 big van with a 318 and towing package.
When towing my Power Wagon to Michigan, the trans would slip (occasionally and only when hot) from a standing start. It would make a sound like a big fan blowing, but would barely move. Then it would eventually (5 to 20 seconds) seem to hook up and behave normally. This never happened except in first gear from a stop.....except I had been noticing the same sound and lack of motion when starting the truck after it had been sitting a long time.
The dealer in Philly said that was "normal"
But slipping after the startup cannot be. I had it checked at a dealer in Traverse City and they found no trans error codes, the fluid was discolored a bit but did not smell burned. I did replace the fluid.
Basically he said he could not find a problem to fix, but believe me there is one!
The mechanic suggested it "might" be the torque oonverter.
Does anyone know what could cause these symptoms?
