The 6 cyl Cummins is just too much engine for an M37 or old Power Wagon. Most important too long by about 8", also heavier than a 4cyl at 1000 lb (the 4 cyl is ~750), too much torque for the drivetrain. You can still easily have 270-400 ft-lb with the 4cyl.
I estimate I have at least 350 ft-lb if not more with my 4 cyl 3.7L Hercules which on a supplemental diet of propane.
